Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND)

At Marie Weller Primary School we recognise that all children have particular needs at different times. Our aim is for every child to receive the teaching and experiences that best support those needs.

Our SENDCo is Mrs Nicki Wilson, who can be contacted by email at SENDCO@mwps.thlt.academy.

When it is considered that a child would benefit from additional support or specialist intervention, we can access a range of external agencies. Parents are always consulted before any referrals or involvement take place.

Our curriculum is designed with enough flexibility for most children to access learning suited to their needs within their own class. However, where extra help is needed, we have skilled staff who work closely with teachers to provide targeted support. We will always discuss this with you at an early stage if we feel your child requires additional help.

A special educational need may be long term or temporary. If a child is finding aspects of learning more challenging, or is achieving well above the expected level, we will work together to identify what adjustments or challenges will help them continue to make progress.

We want every child to reach their full potential. Parents play an important role in this, and we value being informed of any changes at home or circumstances that may affect a child’s wellbeing or learning.

For more detail, please see our Inclusion Policy and SEND Information Report.

We also have a statutory duty to share the West Northamptonshire Local Offer, which:

  • provides information for families with children who have a special educational need or disability
  • helps families understand the range of local services and provision available
  • supports professionals to work together effectively to meet children’s needs
  • promotes transparency and choice for families

You can find the Local Offer here: West Northamptonshire Local Offer

Another helpful service for families is West Northants IASS (Information, Advice and Support Service), which offers independent support to children and parents. More information can be found at https://iassnorthants.co.uk/.
