Health and Wellbeing

Health and Wellbeing Education gives pupils at Marie Weller the knowledge, skills, and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy and safe and to prepare them for life and work in modern Britain.

There is compelling evidence that a Health and Wellbeing curriculum helps keep children and young people safe, mentally and physically healthy and prepared for life and work.

It helps children and young people to protect themselves and others both online and offline, improves their physical and emotional health, and develops character, resilience, academic attainment and employment prospects, with the greatest benefits experienced by the most disadvantaged pupils.

At Marie Weller we use SCARF online which has been developed by teachers and centred on the ‘Growth Mindset’ approach. SCARF’s online resources support primary schools in promoting positive behaviour, mental health, wellbeing, resilience and achievement.

We use SCARF resources to guide our teaching of Health and Wellbeing, which promotes a whole-school approach to building these essential foundations – crucial for children to achieve their best, academically and socially.

It provides a strong foundation for children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural education. Units relate directly to one or all the British Values’ themes and also cover:

  • Feelings and Emotions
  • Keeping Safe
  • Healthy Lifestyles
  • First Aid
  • Prevent
  • Valuing Difference
  • Rules Rights
  • Responsibilities
  • Living in the Wider World
  • Relationships

Throughout the year we promote Health & Wellbeing by taking part in National Mental Health Events for children, parents and staff. We will in the future host regular visits from the Life Education Bus and the NSPCC.
