Parent & Visitor Code of Conduct
In This Section
Home/ Parents/ Parent & Visitor Code of ConductAt Marie Weller Primary School, we are fortunate to have very supportive and friendly parents. Our parents recognise that educating children is a collaborative process that thrives on a strong partnership between home and school. They understand the importance of building a positive working relationship to equip our children with the necessary skills for the next stages of their education and into adulthood.
The purpose of this policy is to remind all parents and visitors to our school about the conduct expected, allowing us to work together to ensure a safe and positive environment for our children.
Respect and Concern for Others and Their Rights
We expect all parents and visitors to show respect and concern for others by:
- Supporting the respectful ethos of our school by setting a good example in their own speech and behaviour towards all members of the school community.
- Working together with teachers for the benefit of children, including approaching the school to resolve any issues of concern and to discuss and clarify specific events in order to bring about a positive solution.
- Reinforcing the school’s policy on behaviour.
- Respecting the learning environment, both in school and during off-site activities.
- Parking considerately and with respect for others when delivering and collecting children from school.
To Support a Peaceful and Safe School Environment
We do not tolerate:
- Disruptive behaviour that interferes with the operation of a classroom, office area, or any other part of the school grounds.
- Using loud and/or offensive language or displaying temper.
- Threatening harm or using physical aggression towards another adult or child. This includes approaching someone else’s child to discuss or chastise them, as well as physical punishment against your own child on school premises. (Such actions may constitute an assault with legal consequences.)
- Damaging or destroying school property.
- Issuing or partaking in abusive, threatening, malicious, or inflammatory emails, phone calls, or social network messages (see Appendix).
- Smoking, consuming alcohol, or using other drugs on school grounds, or accessing the school site whilst intoxicated.
These behaviours, whether on school premises or directed at a member of our community online, will be reported to the appropriate authorities. Governors may also prohibit an offending adult from entering the school grounds to safeguard our school community.
We trust that all parents and visitors will fully support this code of conduct.
Appendix 1: Social Media Conduct
Unfortunately, social media websites are increasingly being used by a small number of individuals to fuel campaigns and complaints against schools, staff, and sometimes other parents or children. Marie Weller Primary School considers the use of social media in this way as unacceptable, setting a poor example for children and not being in the best interests of the entire school community.
Any concerns about the school should be raised through the appropriate channels by speaking to the Class Teacher, the Headteacher, or the Chair of Governors, so that they can be dealt with fairly, appropriately, and effectively for all involved.
If any child or parent/family member connected to Marie Weller Primary School is found posting libellous or defamatory comments on social media, they will be reported to the appropriate ‘report abuse’ section of the platform. All social media platforms have clear rules about permissible content and mechanisms to report content that breaches these guidelines. The school will also expect any parent or child to remove such comments immediately.
In serious cases, the school will consider its legal options to deal with misuse of social networking or other online sites. Additionally, any instance of cyberbullying or public humiliation of another member of the school community via social media will be treated as a serious case of bullying, and we reserve the right to refer the matter to the police.
